EXCITING UPDATE:  I know I am still listed as available but Foster Mom and Dad have decided to adopt me and that is going to happen quite soon.  I am OVER THE MOON HAPPY.  Thanks.

I’m Skipper, the diabetic dachshund. I am a little wiggle butt. I’ve met a lot of new humans lately--coming into my new foster home, taking walks, and getting groomed--and I have warmed up pretty quickly to them. It doesn’t take long to get my tail (and then the rest of me) wagging. I’m extremely smart and very curious, and, like your typical doxy, I’m highly food motivated. But because of my diabetes, I need special food and treats, and my intake needs to be monitored to keep me safe. I also require insulin shots twice a day. But I’m good about getting the shots if you distract me with a tiny bit of a treat.

I love cuddling and sitting on the couch next to people, but I’m also fine to chill out on the daybed in my foster mom’s office and look out the window over my new dominion. Mostly, I’m just happy to be around people. But, I also like to explore the yard and the various nooks and crannies in the house where I may find food (after all, I am a doxy, I’ve got a great nose and a great appetite). I haven’t found anything yet, but I am still hopeful… so I keep looking. I can climb furniture and love to walk along the back of the couch. I also figured out how to climb up a potting shelf in the backyard so I could look over the fence, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on me when I’m in a roaming situation, because I am extremely smart, and resourceful.
I’m doing well with the doggies in my new foster home. I was a little snarly at first because I felt a little insecure and was a bit overwhelmed by all of the sniffs. I have a lot of foster siblings. The good news is, I was able to have some proper introductions and some long walks with my new friends. Every day I bond more and more with them. Today I went out for a nail trim and bath and when I arrived back home and heard the others barking from the house, I was very waggy and happy to be back with the pack. I would get along in a house with other dogs, but I won’t lie, I would also love to be your one and only love. And I promise I will love you with all of my heart (and my wiggle butt).
