The bad about Oscar...
At first we believed Oscar was a grumpy/aggressive guy. He gets very stressed in new situations and will bite if pushed to it. He will also react aggressively out of fear towards new dogs. Slow and proper introductions are a must with people and dogs for him. Oscar is a one person dog and has firmly attached himself to my partner. He follows her around everywhere and will stress out/pant when he cannot see her. He is crate trained though and will settle down after 10 minutes or so. Oscar is not particularly great with cats and I’d recommend a home without them or either a cat that won’t try to interact with him much. Oscar does not do car rides. He gets extremely stressed to the point of excessive panting/drooling and he’s even pooped himself out of fear. Oscar has definitely shown some signs of past abuse/trauma. He does not like raised voices, even in play and is started by really fast movements. Oscar is very barky so I wouldn’t recommend him for a home in an apartment or with close neighbors. Half the time I think he’s just barking to hear himself bark Oscar is terrified of the leash being put on and will snap if he sees you coming with a leash/harness. We’ve slowly been slowly desensitizing him to them with treats. This is something his new owner will need to continue to work on.
The good about Oscar...
After several months he has become comfortable here and his personality has really started to come out. He is submissive with our other dogs and plays with our deaf Chihuahua puppy like he’s a puppy himself. Nacho is much smaller than him but Oscar is always gentle. Oscar is a big time snuggle bug and loves to be on the bed or couch with us. Oscar will happily follow us around outside without a leash but doesn’t like to leave the property. Oscar loves food and test tasting anything that comes from the kitchen. He also loves being given a peanut butter covered lick mat. Oscar tolerates a bath and dry. We do his nails a couple at time over a few days so we don’t stress him out. For an older guy he has a surprising amount of energy and loves when you get down on the floor with him. Oscar also loves his stuffed toys and loves to collect them all in our room.
