If Peanut could tell his story, he’d probably be one of those guys who brushes it off as “no big deal”.  We don’t know all of Peanut’s story, but we have pieced together this:  Someone really loved him once.  He had a major surgery that involved placing a pin in his hip.  And then he ended up being surrendered to a volunteer at a methadone clinic.  I think it’s safe to say Peanut’s seen some stuff.  But Peanut is the sweetest, cutest little dude. Here is what his foster mom has to say about him: Mr. Peanut AKA Nutty Buddy AKA Peanut Butter Jellington is a true cuddle bug who loves being around humans.  He wants to be next to you on the couch and in bed, but he’s also fine for a few hours at a time solo.  He hates being crated, but he’s not destructive when he’s out, and he’s absolutely housebroken!   He’s fine with our without other dogs, provided that the other dogs aren’t very territorial with their owners!  He’s potty trained, good on a leash, and loves squeaky toys.  Given his leg and his dachshund-ness, he’d need help going up/down more than just a few stairs.  He can be barky if riled up by other dogs, but he is very easily directed, PARTICULARLY with toys!  He loves them!  He’s an incredibly lovable little dude who wants “his person”— once he picks you, he’s your loyal sidekick!

We are still working out what will need to be done with Peanut’s leg that has the pin in it---that leg is causing him some intermittent pain, and that pin may need to come out!  His adopters should plan on joint supplements, possible cycles of pain meds such as Rimadyl or gabapentin (both are inexpensive), and potentially treatments such as acupuncture for those hips as he gets older.
